Biopsy Cone Pregnancy

Following a biopsy (cone) pregnancy may be affected by the very procedure used to treat cervical cancer or other HPV related conditions. If abnormal cells are present on the cervix, a cryotherapy can be performed as a second exam, but a conization or treatment should be put off until after the baby is born. Follow up Pap smears should be performed through out the 40 weeks to check on the abnormal cells. Although a small tissue sample is alright to take if needed for testing while pregnant, a cervical conization is not recommended to be performed if the patient is pregnant.
